Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has expressed deep concern over ongoing attacks in parts of the state, revealing that bandits have now taken control of 64 communities.

Speaking during an interview on a Channels Television programme aired on Tuesday, Mutfwang explained that many of the recently targeted areas had already suffered similar violence in 2023 but had managed to recover and rebuild.

He cited the Ruwi community as an example, noting, “Ruwi was initially attacked in 2023, where 17 people were killed. Yet, the community bounced back, demonstrating the resilience of our people.”

According to reports, over 50 individuals were killed in just one week during coordinated attacks across five communities, with more than 300 homes reportedly destroyed by suspected herdsmen.

In response, the Plateau State Government dispatched a team led by Secretary to the Government, Samuel Jatau, to visit the affected areas, assess the damage, and distribute relief materials to victims.

Federal Government representatives, including Presidential aide Hajiya Hadiza Bala Usman, have also pledged renewed efforts to address the persistent violence and killings in the region.

However, Governor Mutfwang pointed out that these incidents are not new. He stressed that Plateau State has faced such attacks for more than a decade, but the severity of the situation has yet to receive the national attention it deserves.
