    Published on

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has approved the employment of 2,000 teachers for secondary schools in a bid to strengthen the state’s education sector.

The announcement was made during a State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Gusau, according to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.

Idris explained that this initiative aligns with Governor Lawal’s priority to revitalize the education sector. The recruitment process will begin with an initial batch of 500 teachers, focusing on critical subjects such as English, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, ICT, and entrepreneurship studies.

    *Commitment to Education Reform*
The statement highlighted the governor’s dedication to addressing challenges in the education sector.

“Governor Dauda Lawal, in his commitment to revamp education in Zamfara State, declared a state of emergency in the sector on November 14, 2023,” the statement read.

The phased employment strategy aims to ensure transparency and recruit qualified teachers to address critical needs in secondary schools.

    *Part of the AGILE Program*
The recruitment is part of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) program, designed to reverse the deterioration in the education sector and enhance teaching quality and student performance across Zamfara.

“We are starting with the employment of 500 teachers in the first quarter of this year, prioritizing critical subject areas to fill gaps in our schools,” Idris added.

This move underscores Governor Lawal’s efforts to restore quality education in Zamfara and foster better outcomes for students in the state
