Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Governor of Gombe State and Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, has reaffirmed his commitment to rallying support among his colleagues and other key stakeholders in the northern region to find lasting solutions to issues of security and socio-economic development. Governor Inuwa Yahaya made this statement during a visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, in Abuja.

The Governor reminisced about a time when the North was a united and peaceful region, devoid of crimes, ethno-religious conflicts, and other socio-economic challenges. He emphasized that his leadership as Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum would prioritize efforts to restore the region’s former glory through consistent engagement, peer reviews, and deliberate actions aimed at building consensus.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya acknowledged the prevailing challenges faced by the region, including insurgency in the North East, ethnic and religious crises in the North Central, as well as clashes between farmers and herders leading to banditry and cattle rustling. He highlighted the interconnectedness of these issues, citing the loss of livelihoods resulting from farmer-herder clashes as a contributing factor to the insecurity in the North. The Governor expressed confidence that collaborative engagement, understanding, and accommodation of everyone’s interests would lead to a better future for the entire North and the country as a whole.

Furthermore, Governor Inuwa Yahaya shared details about his administration’s economic and infrastructural revolution, stating that they have developed a 10-year Development Agenda aligned with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The agenda focuses on human capital development, including education, health, and youth development, as well as agriculture, commerce, and trade. Through the implementation of this agenda, Gombe State has made significant progress in various sectors, becoming a hub for growth, development, peace, and shared prosperity.

The Governor attributed the prevailing peace in Gombe State to the harmonious relationship among different ethnic and religious groups. He emphasized the importance of understanding and respect among the diverse cultures within the state, enabling an inclusive environment for all religions and tribes. Governor Inuwa Yahaya also highlighted the synergy between his administration, security agencies, and the traditional institutions in the state, which has played a crucial role in maintaining peace and combating crime.

During his visit to the SGF, Governor Inuwa Yahaya congratulated Senator George Akume on his appointment, recognizing his exceptional leadership qualities and his previous roles as Chairman, Governor, Senator, and Minister. The Governor assured the SGF of the support, solidarity, and goodwill of the people of Gombe State and the entire northern region.
