    GIZ holds 2nd Nat Entrepreneurship Competition for Nigerian Students

    As part of interventions to drive entrepreneurship skills in Secondary schools, the German Development Corporation (GIZ) on Monday held the second national competition under the Student Entrepreneurship Activity Hub (SEA-Hub)

    The competition is an extension of the state level competition which held in Niger, Ogun, Lagos, Edo and Plateau states.

    The event which took place in Abuja had the theme “Harnessing youth innovation for a flourishing economy,”

    In his remarks, Markus Wauschkuhn, Head of SEDIN-GIZ programme noted that the “SEA-Hub is an initiative of the Pro-Poor Growth and Promotion of Employmont- SEDIN which is part of the Sustainable Economic Development Cluster (SEDEC) implemented in partnership with the states and federal ministry of education, youths and sports and the private sector.

    “SEA-Hubs have been introduced as extra-curricular entrepreneurship clubs, to provide practical entrepreneurship training to selected students and teachers in over 340 secondary schools in 64 local government areas across 12 states in Nigeria. SEA-Hub has reached over 30,000 secondary school students since inception.

    “The SEA-Hubs prepare and build our young minds to understand the basics of running a successful business, foster opportunity recognition, innovation, risk-taking, critical thinking, and employment creation.

    The students are taught skills that help them run successful businesses, foster opportunity recognition, innovation, risk-taking and critical thinking,” he said.

    He added that over Over 300 participants from the invited schools, private and public sector from Niger. Ogun. Plateau, Edo, Lagos and the FCT are participating in the grand finale

    The objectives of the competitions include, to show case the mini businesses and products of SEA-Hub schools, reward and celebrate outstanding business ideas and products across the active SEA-Hub Schools.

    At the end of the competition, the winning school went home with N300,000 followed by the runner up, N200,000 and third position, N100,000.
