Amidst the ongoing industrial action by the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), a tragic incident occurred at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE). An asthmatic student lost his life due to the unavailability of immediate medical care during the strike. The university management expressed dismay over the situation, emphasizing that essential facilities, including the clinic, were inaccessible due to the strike. While SSANU refuted allegations of intimidation by the university’s vice-chancellor, tensions rise amidst the strike, prompting concerns over the well-being of students and the adherence to national directives on industrial action.
