Following Marouane Fellaini’s recent retirement announcement from professional football, Jose Mourinho, his former manager at Manchester United, paid tribute to him on social media. Fellaini, who played under Mourinho’s leadership during the latter’s tenure at Old Trafford between 2016 and 2019, revealed the significance of Mourinho’s messages in a recent interview.
Speaking on the latest episode of the UTD Podcast, Fellaini reminisced about the beginning of his relationship with Mourinho when the Portuguese coach first took charge at United. Recalling a direct message from Mourinho expressing his trust and belief in him, Fellaini emphasized the boost it provided him.
Fellaini highlighted the positive experience of working under Mourinho, noting the mutual respect and trust between them. He praised Mourinho’s coaching style and recalled the successful 2016/17 season as particularly memorable, during which United clinched the League Cup, Community Shield, and Europa League.
Having played the majority of his 177 games for United under Mourinho’s guidance, Fellaini expressed gratitude for the opportunities and success he experienced during their time together.
