FCT workers protesting because I don’t give them contracts- Wike

    Published on

Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, exposed in massive land grabbing for his children, has accused protesting workers of being used by politicians to embarrass him because he is doing the right thing and embarking on projects.

In a media chat on Thursday, Mr Wike said that the workers were unhappy with him because of his “achievements,” insisting that he would not bow to their pressure.

He said, “What I will not take is a threat. I will not be intimidated. There are processes. You just go and carry placards to embarrass me because the opposition is using you. Because of achievement we have recorded, I will not listen to you.’’

Asked why FCT workers were protesting for promotion and other welfare allowance like Rivers State civil servants did when he was governor of the state, Mr Wike said, “They didn’t get promotion before I came. They did kill anybody. Now that I came, they now know that promotion must be done. That you see me commissioning projects has become a problem.”

Mr Wike asked if the FCT workers wanted to be the contractors, adding, “That’s what killed the system. So many things were not working. Because we have come to change things, they are not happy about it.”

The FCT Minister said though workers shut the entrance gate to his office, they shamelessly collected their salary without asking how he had access to sign off their salary schedule.

“Now they lock the gate, but they are paying them a salary. Where should we stay to sign their salary? I can say I cannot go to the office, where will they collect their salary from. Shamelessly they have not asked where I stayed to sign their salary they are collecting,” Mr Wike said.

On Tuesday, the FCT workers besieged the Federal Capital Territory Administration office on Wednesday, demanding that the FCT minister meet their demands.

Some pupils who also protested urged the ministers to pay their teachers for them to return to school.
