A former Mayor of Blanco, Texas, Mike Arnold, has criticised President Bola Tinubu for nominating Reno Omokri for an ambassadorial appointment, calling the move a serious error in judgment.
Arnold, founder of Africa Arise International and a vocal critic of alleged Christian persecution in Nigeria, issued a scathing statement on X, accusing Omokri of hypocrisy, inconsistency, and opportunistic activism.
He argued that Omokri’s recent praise of Tinubu was driven by personal ambition, not principle, and claimed the nomination was a reward for Omokri’s attacks on Tinubu’s opponents.
In a message addressed to the Nigerian Senate, Arnold wrote:
“I’ve seen this man up close. He is a danger to your country.”
He accused Omokri of abandoning personal responsibilities and shifting political positions whenever convenient — from labelling Tinubu a “drug baron” to calling him “Christlike” after receiving favour.
Arnold warned that appointing Omokri as ambassador would reinforce global stereotypes that portray Nigerian officials as “slick scammers” and would “de-market the nation.”
He urged the Senate to reject the nomination, insisting Nigeria “deserves better than a paid propagandist who wouldn’t even bury his own father.”
