This he publicly debunked during his 70th birthday celebration January 4 of that year.

Reacting to the false reports at the time, he said: “I am terribly embarrassed by this news that I am dead.

“Several people have been calling me from across the world since the story broke. I am still investigating the source of the rumor.”

Fondly referred to as “Chairman,” Chukwu was a towering figure in Nigerian football, earning respect and admiration both as a player and a coach.

His legacy in the sport is enduring, marked by his leadership, achievements and contributions to the development of football in Nigeria.
