In anticipation of their clash with the Super Eagles in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group stage, Equatorial Guinea has received a significant boost with the Vice-President of the country, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, offering 200 free plane seats for fans. The gesture is expected to create a supportive atmosphere for Equatorial Guinea as they face Nigeria in their opening AFCON match on January 14 at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Ivory Coast.

Given the geographical distance from Nigeria to Ivory Coast, the provision of free plane seats is seen as a thoughtful initiative to ensure the presence of passionate fans at the 60,012-capacity stadium. Fans’ support is considered crucial in football, influencing the players positively and potentially affecting the dynamics of the game.

While Equatorial Guinea benefits from this 12th-man boost, the Super Eagles can also rely on support from the sizable Nigerian community in Ivory Coast. Despite being slight favorites due to their quality, the Nigerian team is aware of the resilience of Equatorial Guinea, emphasizing the importance of strategic tactics to secure a victory in the upcoming match coached by Jose Peseiro.
