Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper, Jesus Owono, expressed confidence and fearlessness after his team secured a 1-1 draw against Nigeria in their opening match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Despite the star-studded lineup of the Super Eagles, Owono stated that the Nzalang Nacional were not intimidated.

Equatorial Guinea took the lead in the 36th minute with an exquisite goal from Iván Salvador, but Nigeria quickly responded with a goal from African Player of The Year, Victor Osimhen.

Despite Nigeria’s dominance and multiple chances, Equatorial Guinea’s goalkeeper, Owono, played a crucial role in denying the Eagles with six fantastic saves. Owono was awarded the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.

After the match, Owono confidently declared, “We were not scared of Nigeria. The union of a team makes a difference.”

Equatorial Guinea’s resilience and Owono’s stellar performance contributed to the team’s ability to hold Nigeria to a draw in the highly anticipated encounter.
