Enugu PDP Chieftain Warns Outgoing Local Government Chairmen to Prepare for Probe and Prosecution

Chinedu Eya, a former senatorial aspirant for Enugu North District in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has cautioned outgoing local government chairmen in Enugu State to be prepared for investigation and possible prosecution. Eya noted that the observed maladministration by some of the council chairpersons might lead to a probe initiated by Governor Peter Mbah.

In a social media post, Eya stated that Governor Mbah is likely to investigate financial irregularities by the outgoing local government chairmen in the state. He emphasized that only prudent chairmen with verifiable achievements might escape the level of scrutiny that would be instituted against them after leaving office.

Eya expressed his belief that Governor Mbah, coming from the corporate world and aiming to transform the state through industrialization, would be inclined to probe instances of wastage and financial profligacy. He urged caution under such leadership, especially when a leader sets ambitious goals like raising the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from $4 billion to $30 billion.

With the tenure of the local government chairmen set to end, the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has scheduled council polls for February 24, 2024.
