Philip Shaibu, the reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, has voiced his disappointment over the treatment he received from Governor Godwin Obaseki, despite his considerable sacrifices for the administration. Shaibu shared his sentiments during a visit to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Wednesday evening.

Shaibu detailed his contributions and sacrifices, including forgoing personal earnings and official entitlements to support Obaseki and avoid conflict. He clarified that, contrary to reports requesting the return of 22 official vehicles, only one vehicle in his convoy was provided by the governor, with the rest being his personal property or vehicles acquired before Obaseki’s term.

Addressing whether he could ever forgive Obaseki, Shaibu said, “Human beings have different ways of behaving and the only perfect person is the Almighty God. Every other person who is created by God is imperfect. However, we are commanded to love our neighbor as ourselves. If we follow this principle, there would be peace in the world.”

Shaibu admitted that there is no such thing as a perfect relationship, reflecting on the strained dynamics between himself and the governor. He emphasized his dedication to Edo State, noting that his sacrifices were aimed at ensuring the success of the administration.

He also criticized Obaseki’s governance style, describing it as dictatorial and stating that such an approach can no longer be tolerated. Shaibu called for collective effort to restore the APC to the Government House, acknowledging that it is a task involving all Edo people.
