Real Madrid announced on Saturday that Eden Hazard, 32, will be leaving the club after enduring four injury-riddled seasons with the Spanish giants.

Hazard, who joined Real from Chelsea in 2019 for a transfer fee of €115 million ($123 million), was initially greeted by up to 50,000 enthusiastic fans at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Belgian international was in his prime during his final match with Chelsea, scoring two goals to help secure the English club’s victory over Arsenal in the Europa League, where they triumphed 4-1.

However, almost immediately after his move to Spain, Hazard was plagued by ankle injuries, severely hampering his performance on the field.

Over his tenure, he made just 54 appearances in the league, with a mere six appearances this season, and managed to score seven goals.

“Real Madrid Football Club and Eden Hazard have come to an agreement for the player to leave the club as of June 30, 2023,” stated Real Madrid in an official statement.

Real Madrid expressed their fondness for Eden Hazard and extended their best wishes to him and his family for their future endeavors.

Additionally, forward Marco Asensio also revealed that he will be departing Real Madrid when his contract expires in June.

Asensio has achieved great success with Madrid, winning La Liga and the Champions League on three occasions each. This season, he secured the Copa del Rey for the first time, contributing 61 goals in 285 appearances.

While Asensio made a significant impact coming off the bench, he struggled to establish himself as a consistent starter for Los Blancos.

Both Hazard and Asensio’s departures mark a new chapter for the players as they seek fresh opportunities in their careers
