Following an Orderly Room trial, Police Inspectors Sunday Adetoye and Ogunleye Stephen, stationed at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, have been dismissed by Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Mohammed Ali. The dismissal is a result of their involvement in armed robbery, official corruption, and illegal duty.

The incident took place on November 23, 2023, when Adetoye and Stephen, along with two members of a vigilante group (Semiu Afisu and Abidoye Femi) and a driver named Charles John, reportedly conducted an unauthorized operation in Obada-Oko community, Ogun State, at around 10:00 pm. Armed with two Submachine SMG rifles and live ammunition, they searched the residence of Taiwo Monsuru and Akintola Sunday without a warrant, making off with five iPhones, one Samsung smartphone, one Tecno smartphone, and two laptop computers.

In response to this misconduct, AIG Mohammed Ali has directed that the dismissed officers, along with the civilians involved, be charged to court. He emphasized the commitment of the current management of the Nigeria Police Force, under IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s leadership, to uphold professionalism and eradicate corrupt practices within the force. AIG Ali urged all officers and personnel to adhere to the law in the discharge of their duties, reminding them that any deviations would be met with accountability. Additionally, he encouraged the public to report unprofessional conduct by officers, emphasizing the Police Force’s dedication to protecting the public.
