Following the recent controversy surrounding an Anambra student, Ejikeme Mmesoma, who was accused of forging her UTME result, Nigerians on social media have uncovered an application that enables users to manipulate their scores. The application, called “JAMB-Funfake,” was found on both the Apple store and Google Play store as curious individuals sought to delve into the root of Mmesoma’s alleged “fake UTME result.”
Earlier reports by The PUNCH highlighted how the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) accused Mmesoma of manually inflating her UTME score using undisclosed software. Speculation arose that Mmesoma had utilized the JAMB Funfake app to tamper with her result, although the Board did not confirm this.
In response to these developments, numerous Nigerians on social media have generated their own “fake” UTME results. One Twitter user, Truthwill Prevail, proudly shared their generated “UTME result” via the app, stating, “I got the highest score in JAMB. It is easy to spot fake results; this thing is meant for fun. App: JAMB Fake Results Maker.” Similarly, another user named Wahab Akintayo showcased a fictitious UTME result for Adekunle Ciroma Chukwuemeka, produced using the JAMB Fun App from the Play Store.
Facebook users also joined the trend, with Obioma Nwosu sharing a “UTME result” obtained from the app. Nwosu commented, “This is the issue. In resolving the puzzle, you can generate JAMB results from the App in the Google Play store, JambFun-Fake result maker on Google Play Store. I just generated this one. What others did as fun, she took hers to another level. And JAMB also took this too seriously, knowing that this fake result generator exists. They should pardon the girl; it’s just mere childish exuberance.” Similarly, TJ Umar uploaded their own “UTME result,” stating, “Since I’ve been sitting for JAMB, I’ve never had an aggregate of 200 or above. My scores have always been 190, 196, and 199. Now I’ve finally achieved my long-term dream of even exceeding my target score. @Whoever created this app truly understands the fun of giving yourself something you can never have. So, is it like this you guys go about obtaining scholarships? Disclaimer: This result is fake. I generated it for social media fun and do not endorse the information it contains. Please do not take it seriously.”
In an effort to verify the app’s validity, our correspondent also generated a “UTME” result.
As a consequence of the alleged result forgery, JAMB has banned Mmesoma from taking the UTME for a period of three years.
