Denmark’s U17 national team coach, Jesper Mikkelsen, predicts that Arsenal’s prolific teenage striker, Chido Obi-Martin, will attract significant attention at the upcoming 2024 European U17 Championship in Cyprus.
Obi-Martin, of Nigerian descent, has been included in Denmark’s squad for the tournament following a remarkable season in the U18 Premier League, where he has garnered attention with his impressive goal-scoring exploits.
With an astounding 29 goals in seventeen league matches for Arsenal’s U18 team this season, Obi-Martin has become a focal point for opposing teams, as evidenced by their increased focus on him during recent matches.
Mikkelsen acknowledges the striker’s potential to draw attention from opponents but emphasizes the importance of utilizing his presence to create space for other skilled offensive players in the team. Despite Obi-Martin’s goal-scoring prowess, Mikkelsen highlights the team’s overall strength, with multiple players capable of finding the net.
While expressing delight at having Obi-Martin in the squad, Mikkelsen hopes the young striker can maintain his exceptional form for Denmark at the championship. With ten goals in fourteen appearances for Denmark’s U17 national team, Obi-Martin aims to emulate the success of previous Nigerian-descent players by competing for the Golden Boot at the tournament.
