Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, underscores the importance of revitalizing Nigeria’s refineries to mitigate the nation’s foreign exchange challenges linked to fuel imports. His remarks came during a meeting with the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Turnaround Maintenance of Nigerian Refineries, led by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, held at the Government House in Asaba.

Oborevwori stresses that reducing reliance on fuel imports would alleviate pressure on the Naira against the Dollar, urging the Federal Government to prioritize refinery revitalization.

He states, “When this is done, the issue of fuel importation will be a thing of the past because it is causing us a lot and we are having challenges with Forex.” Oborevwori expresses confidence in the committee’s capability to address this crucial matter.

Senator Ubah outlines the committee’s objectives, including refinery rehabilitation, combating crude oil theft, maximizing crude oil output, and supporting initiatives in the Niger Delta region. He assures the governor of their dedication to these tasks.

In an interview, Senator Ubah expresses optimism that Nigeria’s refineries will be operational again before the year’s end, signaling progress toward resolving the country’s fuel-related challenges.
