By Olufemi Oni, Ilorin National Senior Secondary Education Commission has expressed its readiness to partner with Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy in facilitating the deployment of digital pedagogy in Senior Secondary Schools in Nigeria. This was disclosed during the commission’s visit, led by the Chairperson, Ambassador Nimota Akanbi, to the outgoing Minister, Prof. Isa Ibrahim Pantami recently in his office in Abuja. Speaking, Ambassador Akanbi said her commission’s request for technical assistance and partnership from the Ministry is to facilitate a seamless deployment of digital pedagogy in Senior Secondary Schools across the country. She acknowledged the contribution of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), which, according to her, has been of immense help in the installation of solar powers and its maintenance, installation of Information Communication Technology (ICT) centers in some Secondary Schools across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, with the aim to power the 21st century teaching and learning effectiveness for future readiness. The Board Chairperson further solicited for manpower development for the Commission’s staff towards improving their productivity and capability, as well as development of Unified Educational Portal for Data collation for Senior Secondary Schools which, she said, would serve as a data depository bank for information dissemination. In his response, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, said the Ministry would spring up urgent support and collaboration with the Commission in the area of ICT to aid Secondary Schools in Nigeria. He applauded outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Education for their providence in resuscitating the Commission, “knowing full well that the Secondary subsector is better than the Tertiary subsector”.
