Cleric Retracts Controversial Statement, Offers Apology to Remi Tinubu

Idris Tenshi, an Islamic cleric, has issued an apology for his earlier remarks advocating for the killing of Remi Tinubu, the wife of the president. Tenshi’s initial sermon had branded Mrs. Tinubu as an “infidel” deserving of death, citing her leadership among non-believers.

Facing widespread condemnation for his comments, particularly from groups like the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), which demanded his arrest and prosecution, Tenshi has now retracted his statements.

In a new video message, Tenshi expressed regret for his words, labeling them as a mistake. He clarified that other clerics had provided him with a proper interpretation of the verse he had cited. Acknowledging his fallibility as a human being, Tenshi extended his apologies to Remi Tinubu and all Nigerians, recognizing her as a maternal figure to many.

He emphasized that his earlier remarks were made during a political campaign season, and with the current transition of power to Bola Tinubu, he urged support and well wishes for Tinubu and his family.

Tenshi concluded his message by expressing remorse to anyone offended by his previous statements, reaffirming his retraction and offering a sincere apology.
