Change strategy, adopt US, Israel method – David Mark urges Nigerian govt

    Published on

The Federal Government of Nigeria has been asked by former Senate President David Mark to alter its policy in order to address the high level of insecurity in the nation.

Mark wants Nigeria’s borders to be fenced off in order for President Bola Tinubu’s administration to emulate nations like the US, Israel, and India.

He said this in a message of kindness delivered on Sunday in Kano by his Special Adviser on Media, Paul Mumeh, in honor of this year’s Easter festival.

Mark lamented the persistent violent crimes that have taken lives and damaged property, particularly in the Plateau and Benue states in the North Central region.

He asserts that the threat of violent crimes, kidnappings, and armed herdsmen, which are wreaking havoc across the nation, must be addressed immediately.

He proposed that such violent and homicidal organizations should be labeled terrorists and dealt with accordingly.

“The truth must not be avoided. “Why are they killing people, destroying communities, and driving people away from their ancestral homes if they are not terrorists?” he said.

“We must prevent criminal elements from entering our nation,” he continued. We need to adjust our approach. Perhaps we can start considering border fencing like the United States, Mexico, Israel, and India.

“Fighting terrorism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes will be its mandate as well.”

But Mark offered his condolences to the governments and citizens of the two states as well as to everyone who lost a loved one.

According to reports, more than fifty persons were killed in a recent violent attack on Zilkke hamlet in the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau.

In addition, the gunmen destroyed over 40 homes and injured numerous people, including women and children.

Similarly, on Good Friday, suspected herdsmen attacked and killed more than 56 people in Benue State’s Logo and Ukum Local Government Areas.
