The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has commended the National Assembly for the prompt screening of the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General OO Oluyede. General Musa, who observed the screening sessions in both the Senate and House of Representatives, expressed his approval of the thorough and efficient process carried out by the Army Committees in both chambers.

In his statement, General Musa highlighted the timeliness of the National Assembly’s actions, describing them as “patriotic” and “appropriate” during this critical period. He further assured that Lieutenant General Oluyede, once confirmed as the substantive Chief of Army Staff, would bring valuable experience and a renewed sense of purpose to the fight against insecurity in Nigeria.

The CDS also expressed confidence that Lt Gen Oluyede would honor the legacy of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, while continuing efforts to strengthen and modernize the Nigerian Army.

General Musa reiterated the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s (AFN) commitment to the nation’s security and affirmed that the military remains steadfast in its loyalty to Nigeria’s constitutional authority. He assured that the AFN would continue to fulfill its constitutional duties in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty.

The successful screening of Lt Gen Oluyede by the National Assembly Committees paves the way for his expected confirmation in the coming days.
