The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has officially denied rumors circulating about the withdrawal of licenses for Unity Bank and Keystone Bank.

Reports on social media, including a purported CBN circular, suggested that the licenses of Heritage Bank, Unity Bank, and Keystone Bank had been revoked, advising customers to withdraw their funds using ATMs or transfer their money to other banks.

The circular stated, “CBN has withdrawn the licenses of Heritage Bank, Unity Bank, and Keystone Bank respectively. All customers affected should try and withdraw all their money there using ATM CARD or transfer all the money to another bank now before it will be too late. Please let’s circulate this information to our colleagues, family, and friends. Let’s be of help to others.”

However, the CBN refuted these claims in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, declaring the circular to be fake and designed to mislead the public.

The CBN’s post read, “This is intended to mislead the general public. It has nothing to do with the Central Bank of Nigeria. Please be guided.”

CBN Governor Yemi Cardoso reassured the public that there have been no withdrawals of licenses for Unity Bank and Keystone Bank, urging customers to disregard the misleading information and continue their banking activities as usual.
