Benue principal allegedly diverted funds meant for NECO registration

Hell was let loose as angry final-year secondary school students allegedly set ablaze the house belonging to their principal, identified as Mr. Isaac Yina.

It was uncovered that the incident occurred last Friday at Gyutiev Saghev Ward, Model College in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

It was learnt that the principal allegedly collected N85,000 each from about 200 students for NECO registration but failed to fulfill the purpose.

Sources disclosed that the students, numbering over 200, surrounded the house on the fateful day and set the building ablaze.

When contacted, the Benue State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Frederick Ikyaan, confirmed the development and described the action as unfortunate.

He pledged to look into the case and take necessary measures to address the situation.

Efforts to get the comments of the Council Chairman, Maurice Orwough, were futile, as several attempts to reach him through calls and text messages were neither answered nor replied to.

When contacted, the Benue Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet, said she was yet to receive any report regarding the incident.
