    Published on

Following reports that police officers killed Emmanuella Ahenjir, a 23-year-old final-year student at the Federal University, Wukari, a protest has broken out in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State.

Unknown police officers are accused of shooting and killing Emmanuella last Friday morning at the Wurukum roundabout when she was in a car traveling from the town’s Gyado Villa neighborhood.

Prominent gender rights activist Ukan Kurugh has gathered demonstrators, primarily young people, into the streets in response to the incident, which has caused widespread indignation.

With signs that read “End Police Brutality” and “Justice for Emmanuella,” the protesters gathered in great numbers at the Wurukum roundabout.

The demonstrators are calling on the government to conduct a comprehensive investigation and take prompt action.
