‎The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Alfred Emberga, has charged lawmakers to focus on security, economic resilience, rigorous oversight, and citizen engagement as the Assembly resumes for the Fourth Legislative Session.

‎Emberga gave the charge yesterday while welcoming members back from recess at the First Sitting of the Fourth Legislative Session in the Assembly chambers, Makurdi.

‎He said the recess provided lawmakers rest and opportunity to engage constituents and participate in party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎“This session is the final stretch of our current legislative calendar; and it is a defining moment to cement our legacy as a people-centric, proactive and result-oriented legislature,” the Speaker said.

‎He noted that while the Assembly has given its best in previous sessions, members should take note that the true measure of their success lies not in the laurels of yesterday, but in the tasks they execute today.

‎Emberga said expectations of Benue people are higher than ever, and the socio-economic realities facing the state demand innovative legislative interventions, outlining four key priority areas for the session including Security and Peace-building, economic resilience and infrastructure, rigorous oversight and citizens engagement.

‎He promised that the doors of the Assembly would always remain open equally assuring that the Assembly will strengthen public hearing mechanisms to ensure laws reflect the yearnings and aspirations of the populace.

‎Describing the Fourth Session as traditionally a period when political activities gather momentum, the Speaker urged members to renew their covenant with Benue people, advising lawmakers debate with passion, legislate with wisdom and sustain collaboration with the other arms of Government to maintain a harmonious working relationship.

‎He formally welcomed members back to the floor and wished them a peaceful, productive, and impactful legislative session.
