The political atmosphere across Bayelsa State has suddenly transformed into a theatre of anticipation, strategy, and renewed ambition following the release of the names of aspirants who successfully passed the screening exercise of the All Progressives Congress for the Bayelsa State House of Assembly elections.

From the creeks of Southern Ijaw to the bustling streets of Yenagoa, from the oil-rich communities of Brass to the historic towns of Nembe and Ogbia, conversations have shifted almost entirely to permutations, alliances, and the race for legislative power. In tea shops, waterfront jetties, community squares, political gatherings, and social media spaces, the list has become the dominant topic, signaling the beginning of another intense chapter in Bayelsa’s evolving political story.

For many political observers, the screening exercise is more than a routine party process. It is a reflection of the APC’s growing determination to reposition itself as a formidable political alternative in a state long considered a traditional stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party.

What stands out immediately from the released list is the sheer spread and diversity of aspirants. Established political figures, grassroots mobilizers, women, technocrats, youths, and community influencers all appear determined to leave their mark on the next political cycle.

Nowhere is the competition expected to be fiercer than in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, one of the largest and most politically influential councils in the state. The area alone produced a remarkable number of aspirants across SILGA 1 to SILGA 4, instantly turning the region into the epicenter of APC political calculations.

Names such as Tokpo Coronation, Collins Baker Oyinkepreye, Tombra Joseph, Asari E. Asari, Ditel Osunu, and Felix Bonny Ayah have already begun drawing conversations among party faithful in SILGA 1. The political battle there is expected to test not only popularity but also the strength of local alliances, clan structures, and grassroots acceptance.

In SILGA 2, the emergence of Newman Temple Dickson, Tarakiri B. Ogbon, Flint E. George, and Myson Izonebi has heightened expectations of a competitive primary contest. Political analysts believe Southern Ijaw may eventually determine the broader momentum of the APC ahead of the general elections because of the local government’s electoral weight and strategic relevance.

The political temperature is equally rising in Yenagoa Local Government Area, home to the state capital and the administrative heartbeat of Bayelsa. Aspirants including Romeo Ofongo, Bulodisiye Ndiwari, Hon Barry Ndubaden Amaoru, Kate Ebisoru Preye, Zuwa Konugah, and Koffi Osomewo Clifford are among those preparing for what many describe as a high-stakes political contest.

Yenagoa politics has always carried symbolic importance because victory in the capital territory often shapes public perception across the state. The entrance of multiple aspirants into the race suggests that the APC is determined to mount a serious challenge in urban constituencies where political visibility matters greatly.

In Brass Local Government Area, political conversations are taking on a coastal flavor as aspirants position themselves for influence in the riverine communities. Juliet Russia, Daniel Charles, Philemon Kelly Dickson, and Abraham Ingobere are among those whose names are already resonating within local political circles.

Observers note that Brass remains strategically important because of its economic relevance and maritime identity. As a result, the APC is expected to invest considerable effort into building strong legislative structures there.

Ogbia Local Government Area, historically regarded as one of Bayelsa’s most politically symbolic territories, also produced a crowded field of aspirants. Hon Richard Ibegu, Gabriel Michael Ogbara, Lucky Gospel Ewa, Arikpainaban Richard, and Otazi Ethel are among those who passed the screening process.

The political significance of Ogbia extends beyond ordinary constituency politics. Analysts say every political movement within the council attracts statewide attention because of its historical connection to influential political actors in Bayelsa and beyond.

In Ekeremor Local Government Area, the race appears equally intense. Hon Michael Ogbere, Stanley Braboke, Tari-ere Joyce Gita, Felix Eniyekesibe, Felix Boye Dimaro, Digienni Dennis, and Tare Porri are among aspirants now preparing for the next phase of the political
