The government of Bauchi State, led by Governor Bala Mohammed, has taken action against six traditional rulers for their engagement in partisan politics and various other misconducts. The dismissal was carried out by the Local Government Service Commission, and it affected monarchs from both the Bauchi and Katagum Emirate Councils in the state.

According to reports, the traditional rulers were found to have engaged in partisan political activities, encroachment on illegal forest reserves, unauthorized felling of trees, misappropriation of public funds, and acts of insubordination, all of which are against the public service rules.

The statement announcing the dismissals was signed by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Service Commission, Nasiru Ibrahim, on behalf of the Commission’s Chairman and was released to the media in Bauchi on Friday.

The affected traditional rulers are as follows: Alhaji Aminu Muhammad Malami, District Head of Udubo; Alhaji Bashir Kabir Umar, District Head of Azare; Umar Omar, Village Head of Gadiya; and Umar Bani, Village Head of Tarmasawa, all from the Katagum Emirate Council.

From the Bauchi Emirate Council, those dismissed include Bello Suleman, Village Head of Beni, and Alhaji Yusuf Aliyu Badara, Village Head of Badara.

In response to the dismissals, the government has instructed the affected traditional rulers to hand over their duties to their secretaries. Additionally, the emirate councils have been directed to appoint overseeing officers temporarily until the commission appoints new substantive officers.
