‎The 2026 Public Service Week celebration in Delta State continued in Asaba, the state capital, with a keenly contested basketball novelty match between the Civil Service and the Delta State Sports Commission teams.

‎In the closely fought contest on Tuesday, the Civil Service team secured a narrow 52-51 victory over the Sports Commission team.

‎The game, held at the Basketball Court of the Head of Service’s residence, featured two teams, with seven players each.

‎Daily NewsCraft reports that the Civil Service team was drawn from various ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

‎The Delta State Head of Service, Dr (Mrs) Mininim Oseji, performed the ceremonial jump ball to officially open the match.

‎While congratulating the winners, Oseji commended all the participants for their sportsmanship and commitment.

‎She urged more civil servants to take part in future editions, noting that the game provided an opportunity to relax, interact, and foster camaraderie among staff.

‎Responding on behalf of the players, Mr Egodo Morgan of the Delta State Sports Commission thanked the Head of Service for the opportunity to participate.

‎He appealed for basketball to be included as a regular feature of future Public Service Week celebrations in Delta State.
