Six people have been confirmed dead following a bandit attack on residents of Baidi community in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

According to security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the assailants opened fire on residents, leaving several others injured and plunging the community into mourning.

The attack reportedly took place on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, leaving families to grapple with the tragic aftermath.

A video shared by Makama on Thursday showed residents carrying the bodies of their loved ones to the cemetery for burial according to Islamic rites.

This latest incident adds to a growing list of security challenges in Sokoto State and its environs, including repeated bandit raids on rural communities.

Residents in parts of Tangaza and neighbouring areas have reportedly fled their homes due to ongoing threats from armed groups.

Farmers have abandoned farmlands, worsening food insecurity and economic hardship in affected communities.
