APM challenges Osun government over prolonged closure of Oke-Fia Flyover

The continued closure of the Oke-Fia flyover in Osogbo has triggered renewed debate over the necessity and impact of the project, with the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, faulting the Osun State Government’s infrastructure priorities.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Osun State chairman of APM, Adewale Adebayo, said the absence of traffic disruption around Oke-Fia despite the bridge remaining shut showed that it was not central to easing movement in the area.

Adebayo noted that the flyover, completed last year, has not been opened for public use several months after construction ended, yet vehicular and pedestrian activities around the axis have continued without major difficulty.

“The daily reality on ground is that traffic flows freely in Oke-Fia even with the bridge closed. This raises serious concerns about whether the project addressed an existing problem,” he said.

The party argued that the N10.7 billion flyover, which has been completed for over four months, has not demonstrated clear value, given that residents and commuters have adjusted without noticeable inconvenience.

According to APM, the situation calls into question the planning process behind the project and whether adequate studies were carried out before public funds were committed.

Adebayo, who is also the party’s governorship candidate for the 2026 election, recalled that he had earlier expressed reservations about the state government’s large-scale infrastructure programmes.

He said, “As far back as 2023, we cautioned that the N100 billion infrastructure plan lacked focus. Today, the evidence suggests that its overall impact across the state remains limited.”

The party also claimed that the subsequent N150 billion infrastructure programme has produced uneven results, alleging that a significant portion of completed road projects is concentrated in Ede, the governor’s hometown.

APM stated that while some areas have benefited from extensive road construction, other parts of Osun State are still awaiting comparable attention.

“The imbalance in project distribution is obvious. Infrastructure development should reflect the needs of the entire state, not selected locations,” he said.

The party also called on the state government to make public comprehensive details of projects executed under both infrastructure plans.

“We are demanding full disclosure of all projects, including contractors involved and the exact contract sums,” Adebayo said.

APM added that transparency would help residents better understand how public resources are being utilised and assess the true benefits of the projects undertaken.
