APC dismisses ADC as self-serving group, defends Tinubu’s reforms

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a coalition of “hoaxers” and “self-obsessed merchants of vendetta,” accusing its leaders of pursuing personal power at the expense of Nigerians.

In a strongly worded statement issued Thursday in Abuja, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said the ADC, launched on Wednesday with Senator David Mark as its National Chairman, failed to present any meaningful vision or policy alternatives, instead resorting to attacks on President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Morka described the ADC event as underwhelming and devoid of substance, calling its promoters “me-or-nothing politicians” desperate to return to power by “guile and subterfuge.”

The statement reads: “The speech delivered by Senator David Mark was disgracefully vacant, without substance or purpose. It was nothing but stitches of untruths, diatribe, and regurgitated, baseless allegations against the APC-led administration.”

According to the party, the ADC’s leadership offered no clear policy direction, ideological grounding, or alternative solutions to Nigeria’s challenges, instead revealing only what the APC called a “wolfish quest for power” and disregard for Nigerians’ real needs.

Morka argued that Nigerians were “highly perceptive and discerning” and would not fall for what he called the ADC’s “grand folly.” He also defended the Tinubu administration’s record, listing a series of reforms and economic gains he said were already improving lives.

Among the achievements highlighted were a GDP growth rate of 3.4 percent, external reserves rising from $4 billion in 2023 to over $24 billion in 2024, a sharp drop in debt service-to-revenue ratio, declining inflation, higher farmer incomes, stable academic calendars, expanded infrastructure, and progress in security operations.

Morka accused the ADC of ignoring these gains in its haste to discredit the government, saying the administration remained committed to building “a stronger, enduring and more prosperous nation” despite opposition attacks.

“Their desperation is the reason for their willful blindness to the massive structural transformation of our country’s economy,” the statement said. “While coalition members remain preoccupied swimming in mud and throwing bricks, our great party and President Tinubu remain undisturbed and focused on using all available bricks to build for future generations.”

The ADC had unveiled its coalition platform on July 2 in Abuja, positioning itself as an opposition alternative to the APC with major political figures like Peter Obi and Atiku aligning with the platform.
