Andy Murray has announced his withdrawal from the men’s tennis singles event at the 2024 Paris Olympics due to ongoing recovery from back surgery. Despite this, the British tennis star will still compete in the men’s doubles event alongside Dan Evans.

Murray, a two-time Olympic gold medallist in singles (London 2012 and Rio 2016) and silver medallist in mixed doubles, cited his focus on the doubles event as a way to maximize his chances of securing another medal. He expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Evans, noting their strong performance in practice.

Murray’s decision comes after being forced to withdraw from the singles due to a spinal cyst. His last singles match was a brief second-round appearance at Queen’s Club against Jordan Thompson in June 2024. At 37 years old, Murray views the doubles competition as a fitting conclusion to his Olympic career.

In his statement, Murray said, “I’ve decided to withdraw from the singles to concentrate on the doubles with Dan. Our practice has been great and we’re playing well together. Looking forward to getting started and representing GB one more time.”
