Anambra guber: Soludo, Ukachukwu, others to sign election peace accord

    Published on

Ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, the National Peace Committee (NPC) has announced that all 16 candidates will sign a peace accord next week in Awka.

Rev. Fr. Atta Barkindo, Executive Director of The Kukah Centre and Head of the NPC Secretariat, made the disclosure during a pre-election engagement with stakeholders in Awka.

He said the peace accord, to be witnessed by former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, aims to ensure a peaceful and credible election.

“We want to consolidate the peace that already exists in Anambra. After the accord, if post-election issues arise, the Committee will have moral standing to mediate,” Barkindo said.

He urged candidates to conduct themselves with decorum, warning against fake news, misinformation, and incitement.

“Our code of conduct applies to all. Nobody’s blood is worth spilling for an election,” he stated.

Barkindo expressed hope that the Anambra poll, the first under the new INEC leadership, would set a positive tone for future elections in Nigeria.

The meeting was attended by security chiefs, traditional rulers, civil society representatives, journalists, and political candidates, where a draft of the peace accord was presented.
