Former Rivers State governorship candidate, Tonye Cole, has announced his intention to contest the governorship seat again in the next election.

Speaking on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television, Cole reaffirmed his ambition, declaring that he remains determined to become governor despite two previous unsuccessful attempts in 2019 and 2023.

He described his renewed bid as a “third time lucky” effort, stressing his resolve to achieve the goal after years of political engagement.

Cole also spoke about his long-standing relationship with former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, acknowledging that the ex-governor was instrumental in bringing him into politics.

While expressing respect for Amaechi’s political journey, Cole made it clear that he remains firmly committed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and will not be following him to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“Nobody can take away the fact that he brought me into politics,” Cole said, noting that while Amaechi is currently focused on his presidential ambition, his own priority is the leadership of Rivers State.

“I have always respected individuals like Rotimi Amaechi and others. He has his goals and ambitions, and I also have mine,” he added. “At this point, he is pursuing the presidency, and I am pursuing the governorship of Rivers State. That is where my focus lies.”
