During the ongoing 148th Session of the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland, Nigerian Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio, CON, made a bold call for action towards achieving a lasting ceasefire and peace in Gaza. His impassioned plea resonated across the global community, drawing attention to the urgent need to end the ongoing violence in the region.

Akpabio emphasized the necessity for all nations to rise above political differences and prioritize humanitarian concerns in addressing the crisis in Gaza. He stressed the importance of invoking the spirit of humanity to bring about sustainable peace and alleviate the suffering of innocent civilians, particularly women and children affected by the conflict.

As head of the Nigerian delegation at the IPU, Akpabio’s clear and resolute stance set the stage for meaningful discussions on the situation in Gaza. He called for the return of humanitarian aid, restoration of normalcy to the region, and the initiation of negotiations for a permanent truce.

His intervention underscored Nigeria’s reinvigorated role on the global stage and signaled the country’s commitment to championing humanitarian causes and promoting peace and stability worldwide. Akpabio’s words resonated with empathy and urgency, urging the international community to prioritize humanity above all else.

In his address, Akpabio highlighted the urgent need for a collective resolution to the crisis, emphasizing the importance of setting aside egos and political differences in pursuit of a common goal. He urged delegates to prioritize the cessation of hostilities, access to humanitarian aid, and the release of hostages and prisoners of war as essential components of any proposed resolution.

Akpabio’s intervention at the IPU exemplifies Nigeria’s emergence as a proactive and influential voice in global legislative politics. His impassioned plea for peace in Gaza serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility of the international community to uphold human rights and dignity in times of conflict.

As the 148th Session of the IPU concludes, Akpabio’s call for sanity to return to Gaza leaves an indelible mark on delegates, reaffirming the imperative of prioritizing peace and humanitarianism in addressing global challenges.
