Former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George, says Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was a hasty but desperate attempt to survive the party’s leadership chaos.
Speaking in Lagos at a press briefing on the state of the nation, George said the confusion over the party’s national leadership likely pushed Adeleke out.
He also called on President Bola Tinubu to rein in FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, alleging that Wike’s actions threatened Nigeria’s democratic stability.
George described the recent disruption at the PDP national secretariat as “a grave warning,” accusing expelled party members — allegedly backed by a serving minister — of attempting to block the newly elected leadership from taking office.
He argued that such interference undermines multiparty democracy and erodes public trust.
“As a life member of the BOT, I say clearly: anyone who wants to leave the PDP is free. A tree grows stronger when sick branches fall off,” George said.
He questioned why the PDP secretariat was sealed without approval from the new national chairman, Turaki.
Addressing the President, he said: “Is this the democracy our Constitution envisioned? Or are we drifting into a governing style that contradicts its spirit?”
George warned that the current trend of political impunity could push Nigeria into deeper instability if not checked.
“For the sake of our democracy, our history, and our children, the time to act responsibly is now. Nigeria cannot afford another avoidable political collapse,” he cautioned.
