ADC Expels Nafiu Bala-Gombe, Leke Abejide from Party

    Published on

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Tuesday announced the expulsion of former Deputy National Chairman, Nafiu Bala-Gombe and a member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, from the party.

They were expelled for alleged anti-party activities.

The decision was announced during the party’s national convention held in Abuja by the faction under the leadership of former Senate President David Mark.

The convention, which took place at the Rainbow Events Centre, attracted more than 3,000 delegates and political stakeholders as the party intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The David Mark-led ADC also expelled Kenneth Ehiator, Stella Chukwu, and Elias Adiukwu from the party.

Senator Binos Yaroe, who represents Adamawa South, moved the motion for their expulsion on the floor of the convention, which was promptly seconded and adopted by delegates in attendance.

Bala-Gombe and David Mark have been locked in a leadership tussle for the ADC at the national level.

Recently, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) removed the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official portal as National Chairman and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The commission also declared that it would not recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe, who is seeking to be declared national chairman through ongoing court proceedings.

INEC, in a statement issued, said it would suspend recognition of all factions within the party and refrain from monitoring any conventions or congresses organised by groups linked to the contending leaders.

The commission noted that the decision would remain in force pending the final determination of a substantive suit before the Federal High Court.

The development follows a deepening leadership crisis within the ADC, further complicated by a recent judgment of the Court of Appeal in Suit No. CA/ABJ/145/2026.

The conflicting claims to leadership within the party have led to multiple legal actions, creating uncertainty over its recognised leadership structure.
