Abia Warriors begin 2025/2026 season with church service

    Published on

Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia on Sunday, worshipped at The St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church Nigeria, Umuahia to kick-start their 2025/2026 football season.

The Chairman, board, management, technical crew, players, staff and members of the supporters’ club were present to express their gratitude to God and dedicate the new season to Him.

The event is a ritual for the Warriors prior to the commencement of every football season. The colourful ceremony featured songs of praises to God, worship, sermon and prayers.

During the church service, the Chairman of Umu Chineke, Coach John Obuh, on behalf of the club, expressed gratitude to God for the progress made so far, even as he solicited prayers and support from the congregation.

The Minister In-charge of the church, Reverend Chinedu Okoroafor commended Coach Obuh for leading the club to seek the face of God as the new football season beckons, and charged the congregation to hold the club in prayers.

The clergy thereafter prayed for the club and dedicated their affairs to God. Umu Chineke had a successful football campaign last season–placing third at the end of the Nigeria Premier Football League season, a position that qualified them to represent Nigeria in the 2025/2026 CAF Confederation Cup competition, alongside the champions of the 2025 President Federation Cup Kwara United.

They commence the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League season with a home tie against former Nigerian champions, Kano Pillars Football Club at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Sunday, August 24, 2025. Kickoff time is 4pm.
