‎National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has warned the party’s governorship candidates against hate speech, ethnic and religious profiling, violence, and “empty promises” as campaigns for the 2027 general elections begin.

‎Speaking at a consultation meeting with ADC governorship candidates from across the country in Abuja, he said the candidates must distinguish themselves by running issue-based campaigns.

‎“We are ADC. Our campaign must reflect the kind of country that we would like to build. Avoid hate speech, ethnic or religious profiling. We cannot be associated with violence in whatever form,” Mark said.

‎The former Senate President cautioned that making promises with no intention to keep them would damage both personal credibility and the party’s integrity.

‎“Unlike the ruling party and the President, ADC does not believe that all is fair in politics,” he stated, stressing the need for high ethical standards.

‎Mark directed all governorship candidates to familiarise themselves with the party’s governance and ethical principles contained in its Orange Book, as well as the party manifesto.

‎He said adherence to the principles would be key to maintaining the confidence of the electorate and ensuring responsible conduct.

‎The candidates, in their remarks, thanked the party for the platform and welcomed ADC’s decision to make reduction of cost of living a central campaign plank.

‎They particularly expressed support for the party and its presidential candidate’s proposal to restore fuel subsidy as a way to reduce petrol prices and ease economic hardship.

‎They also pledged loyalty to the party and promised to work toward victory for ADC in their states.

‎The meeting comes as political parties intensify mobilisation ahead of 2027, with ADC positioning itself as a credible alternative to the established parties.
