Some parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) experienced darkness for some time on Saturday, August 1.
The temporal disruption occurred in Maitama, Mpape, and parts of Jahi in Abuja.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) explained that the disruption was due to maintenance work at its Katampe Transmission Substation.
TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the disruption resulted in a temporary reduction in bulk electricity load from the substation.
The company said its maintenance crew worked to load a newly installed 300MVA, 330/132/33kv power transformer at the substation between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
The reduction affected only a few areas in Abuja.
“The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to offtake power for onward distribution to Maitama, Mpape and parts of Jahi only for the stated period,” she said.
Ms Mbah apologised for any inconvenience the maintenance would cause electricity consumers in the affected areas.
