The Management of the University of Jos, Plateau State has confirmed the killing of a farmer at the permanent site by unknown gunmen.
A statement released by the security department of the institution disclosed that they are aware of the incident, and will communicate further with the university community.
The statement revealed that panic gripped the University of Jos community in the early hours of Tuesday, after the beheaded body of a man was discovered within the Permanent Site area of the university.
According to the Chief Security Officer of UNIJOS, the deceased was neither a student nor a staff member of the university community.
”He was a farmer, well known in the area, who regularly cultivated crops on farmland within the campus, and usually came very early to tend to his farm.
”Preliminary reports indicate that the assailants may have been monitoring him. They tracked him to the farm, attacked him, beheaded him, and fled the scene with his severed head. The identity of the deceased is known to security, his relatives have been notified, and the body has been deposited at Bingham University Teaching Hospital.
”This gruesome incident has left students, staff, and residents in shock. Many are calling for a thorough investigation and improved security around the campus to prevent a recurrence.
”May Almighty God expose the perpetrators of this dastardly act and grant the family of the deceased strength and comfort,” the statement said.
As at the time of filing in this report, the Plateau State Police Command was yet to issue an official statement.
