President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Tuesday, said by the various projects being executed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have contributed more than roadways.
He said the projects are important
important piece of the FCT’s master plan, designed to ease traffic flow, enhance connectivity, and improve urban mobility for millions of commuters, residents, and businesses in the city.
The President added that the FCT Minister, has contributed to the future of the nation’s capital.
Tinubu stated this during the Day 20 of Projects Commissioning of Transit Way N2 from Central Business District to Wuse District With Two Bridges, in Abuja.
”This infrastructure is a very important piece of the Federal Capital Territory’s master plan, designed to ease traffic flow, enhance connectivity, and improve urban mobility for millions of commuters, residents, and businesses in the city. When I gave the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, CON, Mr. Project, the mandate to oversee the Federal Capital Territory, my directive was single, clear, and uncompromising: Deliver tangible results to the people, eliminate delays, and return Abuja to its master plan.
”I also stressed that the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ must not just be a slogan written on billboards, but a living reality that our people can see, touch, and drive upon. He has not failed me. He has continued to surpass my expectations.
”Today, as we celebrate my administration’s historic third year in office – and coincidentally, mark 50 years since the creation of the Federal Capital Territory – I commend the FCT Administration, led by Mr. Project himself, for its vision, commitment to quality and timely execution.
”You have contributed to something larger than a roadway — you have contributed to the future of our capital. For years, travelling between Wuse and the Central Area meant navigating bottlenecks, losing productive man-hours, and enduring frustrating traffic gridlock.
”Today that has changed. This link between these two very key districts which we are here to commission today is not just a road; it is an economic artery.
”By cutting down travel times and bridging these two major districts, we are opening up new commercial corridors. Indeed, this project symbolises progress and a reflection of my administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda — an agenda committed to building infrastructure that serves the people, unlocks economic potential, and supports sustainable development.
”It is, therefore, quite apt here to say that projects like this are a testament to what we can achieve when planning, execution, and leadership align with purpose, and we are determined to replicate this success in every part of the country, with roads, bridges, railways, and more, ensuring that no region is left behind,” Tinubu, who was represented at the occasion by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, said.
The President stressed that the era of contractors taking mobilization money and disappearing into thin air is permanently over in the FCT, hence, Abuja is no longer a city of abandoned projects.
He noted joyfully, “Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, if we sign a contract, we fund it, we monitor it, and we commission it!To the contractors—thank you for working around the clock to meet this deadline and building to the highest possible standards.”
He, therefore, appealed to residents
to protect the infrastructure, obey traffic rules, and treat public assets with respect.
In his speech, Wike thanked Tinubu for all his supports and for removing the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
”Let me also thank Mr. President. Some of the things we are able to achieve today are possible because of decisions he took when he came into office.
”One of those decisions was removing the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account (TSA). Mr. President made it clear that he did not want excuses.
”He wanted results. He understood that if the FCT remained under the TSA, it would be difficult to access the funding needed to execute major projects.
”Under the TSA arrangement, funds were tied to the Central Bank, limiting our ability to engage commercial banks and raise financing for development projects.
”Today, because of the reforms introduced by Mr. President, we are able to approach commercial banks, leverage our internally generated revenue and access funds needed to execute critical infrastructure projects.
”That is why we are seeing results today.
For years, many governments came and went, but development moved slowly. What we are witnessing today is the result of leadership that understands governance and is committed to delivering tangible benefits to the people,” Wike said.
Earlier, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, stated that the newly completed corridor is not just a road project, but a strategic investment in connectivity, economic growth and urban efficiency, noting that it represents another fulfilled promise in the FCTA’s resolve to build a modern and inclusive capital city.
Mahmoud, therefore, described the project as a bold testament to the commitment of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the determined leadership of the Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, to fast-track infrastructure renewal and improve the quality of life of residents of the FCT.
“Today, we celebrate not merely the completion of a road, but the fulfilment of a promise, the triumph of vision, and another shining milestone in the remarkable transformation of our nation’s capital,” she said.
She explained that the Transit Way N2 would serve as a major transportation lifeline linking the Central Business District and Wuse District, while significantly improving access, reducing travel time, supporting businesses and easing the daily movement of residents and commuters across the city.
