‎Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has set a record revenue target of N11.074 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year, following a 10.24% surplus recorded in 2025.

‎Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this on Monday during the 2026 budget defence session before the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Customs.

‎Adeniyi told the Senate Committee that while the revenue target for 2025 was N6.584 trillion, the Service generated N7.277 trillion, exceeding the target by N674 billion.

‎He said out of the projected N11.074 trillion for 2026, N4.43 trillion had already been realised as at May 31, 2025.

‎According to him, some government policies affected potential earnings in 2025, including CNG/Electric Vehicles tariff waivers and the yet-to-be-implemented Green Tax.

‎“In 2026, despite the major elephant in the room which is the crisis in the Middle East, Customs is determined to achieve its revenue target of N11.074 trillion or even surpass it,” he said.

‎The CG presented a proposed expenditure of N1.235 trillion for 2026.
‎A breakdown shows N421 billion earmarked for personnel cost, N307 billion for overhead cost, and N565 billion for capital expenditure.

‎Members of the Senate and House Committees on Customs commended President Bola Tinubu for extending the tenure of the Comptroller-General by six months.
‎Chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs, Senator Jibrin Isah, (APC Kogi East), congratulated Adeniyi and praised reforms under his leadership.
‎“Customs under your leadership has been transformed through series of revenue generating reforms, improved anti-smuggling measures, improved trade facilitation and provision of required infrastructure for ease of doing business.
‎“Please work harder in 2026 to actualize your budget dreams and projections,” Isah said.
‎The Committee thereafter put the 2026 budget proposal of the NCS to a voice vote and it was unanimously approved by members present.
