‎The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) command, says it will sanction any private guard company found operating with fake documents, without a valid licence, or with an expired licence.

‎The FCT Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu, announced this during an interview in Abuja on Sunday.

‎Odumosu said that private guard companies had been informed of the provisions of the law governing their operations; hence, there is no room for excuses.

‎“No company is permitted to operate with fake documents or expired licences. Any private security firm operating in the FCT without a valid licence should understand that it is only a matter of time before enforcement catches up with them. Those found operating illegally will face the appropriate sanctions, including the sealing of their offices where necessary,” he said.

‎The commandant revealed that surveillance of private guard companies is ongoing across several parts of the FCT to support effective enforcement activities.

‎“We have been conducting enforcement operations across the territory and are currently compiling the names of companies that have violated the law. Once the exercise is concluded, we will move into full enforcement. Therefore, any private guard company that has failed to renew its licence or is operating without proper authorisation should expect enforcement action very soon,” Odumosu said.

‎He said the NSCDC has enjoyed a robust working relationship with private guard companies beyond regulating and training their guards.

‎He said the collaboration was easier because security guards are often close to the people due to the nature of their deployment.

‎“As a result, they provide us with credible intelligence, especially regarding areas where vandalism and other criminal activities may occur. Whenever we receive such information, we act swiftly to prevent criminal activities and ensure appropriate action is taken. Overall, we enjoy a very cordial and productive relationship with private guard companies operating within the FCT,” Odumosu said.
