As part of activities lined up to celebrate the landmark 70th Anniversary of the Nigerian Navy, Naval Outpost (NOP) Koluama II has taken the “Educational Rhapsody” initiative to host communities in Bayelsa State, distributing thousands of learning aids to boost rural education.
The outreach, which took place on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, targeted students of Community Secondary School Koluama I and Community Secondary School Koluama II.
The initiative directly reflects the enduring passion of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, for the education and development of the Nigerian child.
Speaking during the event, the Commanding Officer of Naval Outpost Koluama II, Commander G.E. Okutue, enjoined the students to remain dedicated to their academic pursuits. He emphasized that disciplined focus and hard work are the fundamental pillars required to achieve their future goals and aspirations.
To provide practical academic support, the Outpost distributed over 2,000 educational materials directly to the students.
Furthermore, critical academic resources, including textbooks and comprehensive compendiums of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE/SSCE) past question papers, were handed over to the principals of both schools.
The resources are intended to aid senior students in their final preparations for their upcoming national examinations.
Receiving the items, elders and community leaders from both Koluama I and II expressed deep appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Idi Abbas for extending the 70th Anniversary celebrations to their communities.
They noted with gratitude that an educational intervention of this scale was the first of its kind in the history of both coastal communities.
The successful outreach has further solidified the robust Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) and existing bond of friendship between the Nigerian Navy and its host communities in the Niger Delta region.
