No fewer than six people have been confirmed dead, following a suspected cult-related attack in the early hours of Monday, at Aliade Street, High Level, Makurdi.
The Commissioner of Police Benue State, Ifeanyi Emenari, in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet, said one other victim is receiving treatment in hospital.
The police, according to the statement, received a distress call at about 0230hrs from a landlord on Aliade Street reporting that armed men stormed his house, dragged some young men out of their room, and shot them.
He said detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, adding that preliminary investigations indicate that the attack was carried out by a team suspected to have been led by one ‘Odinaka,’ who is said to be notorious for similar incidents.
The CP said 11 suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the alleged gang leader, “Odinaka.”
He also revealed that investigations is ongoing, adding that further details will be released in due course.
