Military Places Troops On Nationwide Alert

    Published on

The Defence Headquarters has directed soldiers across the country to remain on high alert as Nigerians prepare for the Easter celebrations.

It was reported that during a briefing held in Abuja on Tuesday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, said military personnel had already been placed on alert nationwide.

He explained that the move was to ensure there are no security breaches during the festive period.

He noted that the military usually takes similar steps during major celebrations such as Christmas and Eid-el-Fitr, and that the same level of preparedness would continue throughout Easter.

According to him, security forces are aware that criminal groups often take advantage of festive periods, so troops have been instructed to stay vigilant at all times.

The Defence Headquarters also spoke on its ongoing partnership with the United States, stating that the support is helping Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.

The assistance includes intelligence sharing and training for Nigerian troops, which the military believes will improve operations on the ground.

Onoja said the results of such cooperation may not be seen immediately because of how military operations work, but added that the impact should become clearer in the coming weeks and months.

He explained that some details of the partnership cannot be made public due to security reasons, but confirmed that the information provided by the United States includes data on the location of threats and hostile groups.

He added that Nigerian forces are using the intelligence received to guide their operations and respond accordingly.
