The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged opposition parties to redirect their efforts towards rebuilding their structures and preparing for future elections rather than contesting what it described as concluded mandates from the 2027 polls.

The party made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesman, Seye Oladejo, in reaction to recent political activities and comments by opposition groups across the state and the country.

According to the APC, while opposition parties remain vital to democratic governance, their engagement must be guided by realism and responsibility.

“While opposition parties play an important role in strengthening democratic governance, such participation must be grounded in realism, responsibility, and respect for the mandate freely given by the people,” the statement read.

The party added that the outcomes of recent elections reflected Nigerians’ confidence in its leadership and development agenda.

The ruling party also criticised opposition groups for what it described as poor preparation and lack of cohesion, particularly ahead of party primaries.

It noted that last-minute alliances among opposition figures pointed to internal disorganisation.

“Rather than dissipating energy contesting settled mandates, we strongly advise opposition elements to focus on rebuilding, re-strategising, and preparing meaningfully for the 2031 elections,” the statement added.

The APC reiterated its commitment to governance, stressing that its primary focus remains delivering on its promises to Nigerians.

According to the party, key priorities include improving infrastructure, expanding economic opportunities, strengthening security, and enhancing the welfare of citizens.

The party further urged opposition actors to adopt a more constructive role by accepting electoral outcomes and aligning with existing political realities.

“The road to 2031 offers ample time for reflection, internal reforms, and the development of credible alternatives. Until then, Lagosians expect all political actors to contribute positively to the peace, stability, and progress of our state,” the statement said.
