The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that Electronic Transmission of Results in the coming general election and future elections has come to stay adding that media reports of the use of Manuel system to collate election was false.

This is contained in a Press Release issued on Sunday, August 21, 2022 and signed by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voters Education Committee Barr Festus Okoye,

“INEC’S attention has been drawn to a misunderstanding arising from a recent short interview granted a National Newspaper on the procedure for result management during Elections. Some have interpreted the explanation on result management procedure to mean that the Commission has jettisoned the electronic transmission of Results and reverted to the manual procedure. This is not correct”, Okoye informed in the release.

According to him, the procedure INEC used in transmitting the recent Governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States is the same it will deploy to transmitting 2023 general elections and future elections.

“The Commission charges Nigerians to study sections 60, 62 and 64 of the electoral act 2022 where the ‘entire gamut of elections management are enshrined”

“We appeal to Nigerians not to draw conclusions on the basis of media headlines”

“We wish to reassure Nigerians that Electronic Transmission of results has come to stay”, okoye said
